Ministry of Transport will launch a Road Safety Navigation App
India: The Union Transport Ministry has launched an app to further improve road safety. The app provides alerts about accidents, breakers and other problems. The user does not have to pay any fee for this.
Let us tell you that, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday launched a mobile app developed by MapmyIndia in collaboration with IIT, Madras, which will alert the users about every black spot coming so that the drivers can take precautions. Can A road ministry official said that this is a “free to use” navigation app service and by using this app, users will also get voice and visual alerts about upcoming speed breakers, sharp turns and potholes. The app “MOVE” had won the government’s Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge in 2020.

The navigation app service provides voice and visual alerts to drivers about upcoming accident prone areas, speed breakers, sharp curves and potholes among other hazards. This is a part of the road transport ministry’s planning to reduce accidents and deaths due to road accidents in the country.
IIT Madras Adopted data Driven Road Safety Model
Last month, the road ministry officially adopted a data-driven road safety model developed by researchers at IIT Madras with funding from the World Bank. More than 32 states and union territories will use the Institute’s advanced Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) model to help make roads safer and improve emergency response.
The IIT team has tied up with different state governments to reduce road accident deaths by 50 percent by 2030 and target 0 road traffic accident deaths. For this, he will develop a roadmap.

Users and authorities can report accidents, unsafe areas, road and traffic issues through the app, which will be analysed by IIT, Madras and will then be used by the government to improve road conditions in future,” the official added.
Prof Venkatesh Balasubramanian from the engineering design department of IIT Madras said, “This is something like a digital accident alert board. It’s an attempt to share the high frequency accident zones on roads to the public as an alert. It has all the black spots mapped across India and this database will be continuously updated with our iRAD-based data collection and analysis.”
